Pont Rouge, Maubeuge, France

An old bridge had reached the end of its life. Our idea for its replacement was to split the new bridge in two. This allowed phasing the construction to avoid disrupting traffic through the town.

The gap between the splayed halves of the bridge is clad with mirror-polished stainless steel. This reflects light down to the river and the paths along its banks, and views of the water upwards to people on the bridge.
